Edited by: Gurgeh Morat on 24/06/2011 22:28:12 Actually I think this devblog speaks volumes, when combined with the amount of time it took to produce and the lack of any denials concerning the future transactional nature of Eve. The leaked document was trying to sell the MT philosophy to CCP's own staff implying there is dissention in the ranks. However upper management have already made their minds up.
Clearly they would have preferred the player base not to realise this for quite sometime yet, but the strategy is already planned and in place. This kind of strategic planning takes time and is used to underpin acquisition of resources and investment.
Once the rat was let out of the bag CCP need to respond to the player base, but if the MT strategy has already been set in stone what can they say? If the intention wasn't to eventually introduce non vanity items to the store they would have denied it immediately. It would have been "It's been discussed but we have decided we would never go down that route because it would break Eve as it currently is"
The lack of any denial and failure to address anything other than the attitude of the more reactionary forum members to CCP is a clear message that the strategy outlined in 'Fearless' is indeed the intended future of Eve whether the players or the ground floor coders want it or not.
I'm sure it only took so long to reply because they had to meet and find out if there was any room to manouvre on the long planned strategy discussed in fearless. Obviously the answer was no. There's not much else they can say in that case, except if they don't definitively answer your questions they can keep some of the player base hanging around hoping that things won't turn out that bad or that they will change their mind.
They must have planned for a certain amount of existing players quitting, offset against potential profits of new bling obsessed players with more money than sense. Perhaps some investors have got them over a barrel who knows?
Ultimately you have your answer loud and clear. CCP Zulu even referred to the stance they are going to take on this... FEARLESS.
Personally I would unsub if I hadn't already done so a year ago sensing the cold wind of change. I have only been hanging around these forums in the vain hope that Eve would improve instead sliding inevitably downhill. However seeing this devblog response and the confusion and offence it has caused made me use my hours for plex option to post this.
Unfortunately all things come to an end. The Eve you loved and the company that created it are no more. Don't hang about hoping in vain things will change. The only thing that influences the new masters of CCP is money. If any playerbase in the world should understand that it is the players of Eve.
I know we all truly loved the CCP of old and the Eve that was but the only hope you have of turning around Eve's New Game Experience is by not endorsing the changes with your wallets. I sincerely hope that one day CCP will annouce an update to Eve that encompasses the philosophy and principals that started it in the first place, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

OMG Will you sell non vanity items? Guess a lobotomy would not help the average rager with their reading comprehension. ... Fly safe. Thanks for clearing it all up. To the ones who still feel harmed and are not just being douches, siding with certain angry nerd that rallied her commando team of alts and buddies to inflame opinion when she got a simple forum ban: Reading comprehension lvl 3, train it. Go to a university. Take debate class A.
I guess they forgot to teach you to read between the lines in debate class A?
If it was simply a discussion excercise and the end result was that they decided to never sell non-vanity items in the store, then they would come out and say that and much of the rage would cease. Some posters would apologise, some would thank CCP for the candour, others might be terribly embarassed and most would renew their subs.
The fact that it took so long for such a vacuous response indicates that the future of Eve is sealed. Non vanity items will be available at a station near you soon. Their long planned strategy provides no room for manouvre and they are going to accept the collateral damage (the subs lost) earlier than expected. They will already have had a plan to deal with those losses until their expected MT gains roll in. They just might have to ask for finance to carry them over due to the unexpected early disclosure of that plan.
However they have decided to burn their bridges & take that loss early. The player base have been manipulated, played and metagamed by CCP. Accept it and make your choice.

Originally by: Mukutep I don't understand why some people are cancelling their subscriptions on something that might happen. As of right now there are no MT's beyond vanity when I look. CCP hasn't said there's going to be. Agreed, they haven't denied it, but lack of denial doesn't mean certainty. Seems to me like people (as usual) have overreacted.
If MT's that are more than just vanity actually show up in game, I'll be first in line to leave. But leaving over an un-verified assumption of a possibility seems silly.
You are exaclty the person that their refusal to answer that question is aimed at. If they don't deny it they are not lying. At this point in the forum rage the lack of a denial, especially in this dev blog is a 100% yes, non vanity items are on their way. This is a strategy that has been planned for quite some time. A risk analysis has been conducted. Contingency is in place for the inevitable loss of subs. However I think it happened a little earlier than expected.
The only options left are.
1) Change the long planned strategy - can't be done because they have used this strategy to acquire resources & investment.
2) Come clean now - they could do that but they would instantly lose a lot of subs, more than planned and earlier than expected.
3) Lie now & implement later. They lose 100% goodwill and get no carry over into dust or WOD.
4) String the player base along, accept the early losses and milk the hopeless romantics prepared to keep paying them until the knife is buried in their chests.
You're only fooling yourself if you hang around.

To those saying
Quote: ...but if you introduce non vanity items into the Nex then I will unsub
and
Quote: Give us an answer!
The answer has been given. Read between the lines - no denial means they are going to introduce them. The lack of admission of that fact suggests that their contingency plan didn't include the player base finding out just yet and that they need to retain as many subs as they can at least in the short term.
Don't wait until they ruin the game. Unsub now. Unfortunately there is a lot of latency in the metrics if you just unsub due to the varying lengths of subscription.
So to really make it absolutely clear to CCP. If you are not going to tolerate non vanity MT then don't login at all. Watch the server stats drop.
I mean what is the point in logging in anyway when they refuse to deny they are going to completely ruin the game you play?
In fact after this weekend and the burning bridges dev blog we are responding to, expect non vanity items to appear very quickly unless you can affect their important metrics immediately.

Edited by: Gurgeh Morat on 24/06/2011 23:59:57 Don't just unsub.
The Subscription metric has a lot of latency. Some of you have months or even up to a year of playtime - by then what will eve be?
to make any difference at all you have to hurt the metrics now.
There is one other metric they care about - server stats: logins.
Do not login to Eve & watch the server stats fall, that is the most immediate message you can send to the management. They don't listen to what you write on the forum, only what the graphs tell them.
If you object to non vanity MT - DO NOT LOGIN!
Edit: How do you do Big & Yellow?

Erm, cancellation asks for a reason. Do you suppose the message you supply will only be sent to relevant places in 6 months when your account expires?
Not at all, but do you think the CFO or upper management read those? Also as I said before, they are expecting some unsubs, but undoubtedly are relying on the heady, addictive properties of Eve that was to ensure you keep playing and eventually accept their BS
If you can show them that you can break the addiction and they see the server utilisation dropping like a stone they will take notice.
You do realise under utilisation of their hardware affects their bottom line right?

A lot of the rage, I believe is because of another type of perception: It seems like you and other CCP representatives are so disconnected from the playerbase and the game that you simply have not yet understood the nature of our concerns or the sheer size and gravity of this situation. Again, this might be incorrect and unjust, but again, that is the image you transmit and the perception we have.
Unfortunately I suspect they understand precisely what our concerns are, but they have assessed the situation and believe that the most profitable situation for them is to say FU to the loyal player base they have previously relied on.
They have made contingency plans to account for an expected loss in subs and are not going to change their long term strategy which was clearly outlined in Fearless.
It's obvious though that CCP still has staff who don't believe this NGE is morally right and that it betrays the philosophy of the game that we all bought into.
I sincerely hope those at CCP that believe this is wrong can somehow overturn the idiocy permeating from the top.
Because I am convinced that the money men have got it wrong. I don't believe Eve will gain subscribers if they go down this route.
You can try to make a difference now though, before it is too late. Unsubscribe and do not login. Those are the metrics that count.

Are you moving beyond VANITY AUR items?
You do realize, the lack of answer gives you the answer.

Honestly I can't believe you are still asking the question. I realise it is just disbelief and unfounded hope that make you continue.
Get over the addiction -
Unsub & Stop logging into Eve and there is a tiny chance you can change this

No it's true, but I unsubbed a year ago anyway, I was hoping Incarna would bring me back...
So anyway I can't make a difference with my wallet.
The good thing about Eve is that the virtual equivalent of a strike actually gives you more money in your pocket as well as time with your loved ones and you don't get the crap beaten out of you by people in riot gear who are "only doing their job". Ironically a phrase I heard somewhere around here recently.

My hours for plex will soon be over...
So I repeat one more time, The only way to make them reconsider their non vanity RMT shop is
Unsubscribe and do not login
If you do anything else the MIS graphs will show you approve of Eve NGE.
I bid you farewell and good luck

So this thing is vanity items only?
Yes. We will start out with a rather limited number of items initially, carefully measuring the demand and how it impacts the economy. As time progresses, we'll gradually introduce new items and revise our strategy. We've also discussed this issue in depth with the Council of Stellar Management and will both consult with them and keep them up to date every step of the way.

Also for all you "dont log in people" Unsubbing and loging in would cost them more then just unsubbing. Fools if you don't login you dont cost them as much.
But logging in doesn't affect their secondary but most immediate metric.
Unsubscribing doesn't hurt them until your subscription runs out and I believe that their strategy is partly based on the dependency the player base has on something they have invested so much time and effort into.
If you can show them that you are not so addicted that you still have to login, then they are much more likely to believe you might also not resubscribe.

If everyone who is against this on the forums manned up, unsubscribed and refused to login until CCP gave a full and frank answer and preferably a 180¦ turn around on their decided strategy.
You might, just, have a chance to change their minds.
Ultimately it doesn't hurt you. you get to go out drinking, watch some movies paint the house. Remember your kids names, take the dogs for a walk, play with a frisbee, fly a kite, reas a decent book (or the entire Neil Asher bibliography-honestly he's great)
I guarantee you it would make a difference to CCP. Sure they have planned to lose some accounts over this.
But they didn't expect it to happen now
Their planning for massive sub loss was not expected to be needed some months, even a year from now.
You can always resubscribe if they commit to reinstating the core values that Eve was built on. They may be forced to change their strategy if the golden geese actually flee the next for a period of RL social interaction.
It does you no harm, but it sends a VERY powerful message.
